Alderwood Supplemental Educational Services

Sign up for Free after-school Tutoring Services through Supplemental Educational Services (SES)

If you receive a letter from the Bellingham School District regarding SES, your child may be eligible to receive free tutoring services. Supplemental educational services (SES) for qualifying students focus on supplemental learning in reading, language arts, and/or math. These services can be before or after school, on weekends, or during school breaks. There is no cost to you for these services. SES providers are approved by the Title I department at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. These providers may be public or private school entities, public or private institutions of higher education, for profit or nonprofit organizations, or faith based organizations. Organizations that provide distance learning technology are also eligible.

You can download a list of the SES providers (tutors) who are available to serve Alderwood Elementary students. All authorized SES providers for Alderwood are also listed on the OSPI Website at http://www.k12.wa.us/TitleI/TitleI/SESProvidersList.aspx  You can also see a list of provider options for Alderwood School by visiting the school in person and looking through the information in the main office.

Choose the provider that best suits your needs.

After learning about the providers, or meeting them at Alderwood’s Provider Fair, fill out an enrollment form for the Provider that you think will best support your child’s learning.  The district will then enter into a contract with the provider on your child's behalf and utilize federal Title I funds to cover the cost of the agreed services. You are responsible for transportation to the tutoring with the SES provider. In the event you have questions about the tutoring please contact Trina Hall, the district’s Title I Director at 676-6470 x 4403.  She can help you with information about the providers, contracts and learning plans.

There are two opportunities for qualifying families to sign up for free tutoring this year:  1) September 26-October 21, or 2) November 28-December 16.  Tutoring services begin after the sign up times.   If you are eligible and would like your child to receive free tutoring through Supplemental Education Services (SES), please turn in an enrollment form at the Alderwood office before October 21.  There will be blank copies available at the office.
