New Teacher Induction Program

Welcome to the Bellingham School District. As part of a professional community of learners, the district is committed to supporting the professional growth of each new teacher. A structured program of induction begins in August with the two day New Teacher Orientation. Each new teacher is also assigned a Mentor who guides and supports the new teacher’s learning during year one of induction.

Each new teacher is also assigned a Mentor who guides and supports the new teacher’s learning during year one of induction.

New teachers are also required to attend the monthly New Teacher Professional Development Series that focuses on instructional practices and student learning as outlined in the Developmental Continuum for Quality Teaching, a tool to support the mentoring of new teachers and is aligned with the district teaching criterion and indicators for supervision and evaluation.
