Free and reduced price meals are available to students unable to pay the full price of meals according to criteria based on household size and income. Applications are available in Russian, Spanish, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Korean, Chinese, Laotian, Arabic and Japanese. Each school and the Food Services office at Central Services has access to copies of these translations.
There is no overt identification of students who receive a free or reduced price meal. Our computerized point of service system, MealTime, uses the same format for all students. Every student is assigned a Personal Identification Number (PIN). Money is deposited in student accounts. Accounts are automatically set up for students who qualify for free meals. These accounts show a “phantom” balance of $ 20.00. Students select meals and enter their number at the cashier.
