The Accounting Department performs the following functions in support of District operations:
- Records district financial transactions in accordance with Federal, State, and District regulations
- Oversees receipt and deposit of cash throughout the District
- Manages investment transactions in conjunction with the Whatcom County Treasurer’s Office
- Provides fiscal reporting and other financial information to District, the Public, and State and Federal Agencies
- Coordinates development of the District’s budget & monitors compliance to budget
- Provides grant accounting and reporting
- Issues payments to suppliers for goods and services
- Issues payments to employees for reimbursement of travel and expense reimbursements
- Prepares billings for building rentals, reimbursements, grants, etc.
- Acts as District liaison to the Washington State Auditor’s Office
- Establishes and monitors internal controls to effectively maintain the integrity of financial records, safeguard District assets, and comply with State & Federal regulations
