Career and Technical Education

Career and Technical Education (CTE) is at the front of innovation in education in Washington. There is nothing more exciting than seeing students engaged in studies that push them to their limits and spark their imaginations. It is our state’s responsibility to prepare all students for success in career, college and life. CTE programs in Washington are aligned with rigorous industry and academic standards. Teachers participate in meaningful professional development on curricula and instruction, standards and assessment, and academic integration. Program partnerships and advisories communicate this vision with business and industry partners. Such programs meet the demands of the new economy.

CTE in the Bellingham Public School supports and guides all students as they explore and prepare for careers and post-secondary certificate options. CTE emphasizes real world, real life skills to connect students to academics and training that will help them be successful in their chosen career. CTE courses are currently available in the following fields:

  • Architecture
  • Business
  • Computer Science
  • Culinary arts
  • Electronics
  • Engineering
  • Environmental Science
  • Marketing
  • Manufacturing
  • Robotics
  • Video production
  • Visual communications
  • Web design/animation
  • Middle School STEM

Leadership skill development for all students is also an integral part of CTE programs.  Students participate in leadership activities through Career and Technical student organizations such as FIRST, TSA, FCCLA, FBLA, DECA or locally developed technical clubs. Work-based learning activities are also available to extend the classroom into the workplace, connecting acquired knowledge and skills to a student‘s future employment.

Juniors and seniors have the opportunity to enroll in specialized CTE programs through a partnership with the Northwest Career and Technical Academy.  In addition, many CTE courses provide an opportunity for students to earn both high school and college credit through the Tech Prep program.

For additional information about Tech Prep, or Northwest Career and Technical Academy classes, contact the Career Center or counseling office.
