Following a process during the 2010-11 school year that involved numerous stakeholders throughout our community, a decision was made to open Cordata Elementary School in fall 2011 and temporarily close Birchwood Elementary School to modernize it. Funding for the modernization of Birchwood is coming from a 2006 voter-approved bond in exchange for putting the District Office seismic retrofit work on hold.

Dear Families,

I wanted to keep you updated as we learn more about the budget outlook for the remainder of this school year and 2012-13.

Last week, the state’s Office of Financial Management published these Budget Reduction Alternatives, which included possible ideas for additional cuts for the Legislature to consider yet this school year, as well as for next year.

You have arrived at this page because a link, bookmark or short has an obsolete domain name. The Bellingham School District is retiring the domain bham.wednet.edu and replacing it with bellinghamschools.org. Web addresses that use the old domain name will become inoperative soon.

  • The Levy Task Force will receive information about how the expiring general operations (M&O) levy supports nearly 25 percent of the district’s annual operating budget.

MISSION

The mission of the Bellingham School District, in partnership with the community, is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and qualities required to be successful in a changing, diverse world.

VISION

The following standards should be met when creating new web sites, redesigning old web sites, and for updates of current pages when practical. Points listed under “some practical considerations” are examples only and are not a definitive list. Links to resources and the references at the bottom of this page provide information supporting these standards.

I. Accessibility Standards

From Interstate 5 Northbound: Exit 255 (Sunset Drive, Mt. Baker Highway, State Route 542). At end of off ramp turn right. Continue on Sunset Drive approximately 1.6 miles. Turn right on McLeod Road. Squalicum High School is .3 mile on the left. Visitor parking is in the upper parking lot.

From Interstate 5 Northbound: Exit 255 (Sunset Drive/Mt. Baker Highway/State Route 542). Turn left at end of off ramp onto Sunset Drive and cross over the Interstate. As soon as you have crossed the interstate turn left on James Street. Turn right on Alabama. Turn left on Cornwall Avenue. Turn left on Franklin. Options High School is on the right.

From Interstate 5 Northbound: Exit 254 (Iowa Street), turn right at bottom of off ramp. Proceed through the Woburn Street intersection, making a slight turn to the left and becoming Yew St. Continue on Yew Street across Alabama Street. Yew Street dead ends at Roosevelt Elementary School.

From Interstate 5 Northbound: Exit 254 (Iowa Street) turn right at bottom of off ramp. Turn left onto Woburn Street. Turn right onto Alabama Street. Continue on Alabama to the three-way stop sign, turn left and follow North Shore Drive as it curves around Lake Whatcom, and turn left on Academy. Silver Beach Elementary is on the right near the end of the street.

From Interstate 5 Northbound: Exit 255 (Sunset Drive/Mt. Baker Highway/State Route 542). At end of off ramp turn left onto Sunset Drive and cross over the Interstate. As soon as you have crossed the Interstate turn left on James Street. Sunnyland Elementary is on the left on James Street between Ilinois Street and Maryland Street.

From Interstate 5 Northbound: Exit 250 (Old Fairhaven Parkway), at end of off ramp turn left. Continue on Old Fairhaven Parkway to 12th Street (approximately 1 1/3 mile). Turn left on 12th Street and cross the bridge.  You will see the school building in front of you. Continue straight through the light and proceed to parking lots on your left.  The school address is 110 Park Ridge Road.

From Interstate 5 Northbound: Exit 253 (Lakeway Drive). At end of off ramp, turn right on King Street, then left at the light (Lakeway Drive). Continue on Lakeway drive approximately 1 1/3 mile. Turn right on Kenoyer, then turn at the first left onto the school grounds.

From Interstate 5 Northbound: Exit 257 (Northwest Avenue), turn left at bottom of off ramp onto Northwest Avenue, turn right on Alderwood Avenue. Shuksan Middle School is located at corner of Northwest Avenue and Alderwood Avenue.


From Interstate 5 Southbound: Exit 257 (Northwest Avenue), turn right at bottom of off ramp onto Northwest Avenue, turn right on Alderwood Avenue. Shuksan Middle School is located at corner of Northwest Avenue and Alderwood Avenue.

From Interstate 5 Northbound: Exit 255 (Sunset Drive/Mt. Baker Highway/State Route 542). Turn left at end of off ramp onto Sunset Drive and cross over the Interstate. As soon as you have crossed the interstate turn left on James Street. Turn right on Alabama. Turn left on Cornwall Avenue. Bellingham High School is on the left in approximately ½ mile.
