The Computer Services Department supports students and staff in the use of technology resources. The department is responsible for ensuring the availability of these resources to meet the District’s mission, strategic goals and implementing objectives. It has three integrated operating elements: the District Data Center, the Help Desk support team, and the Network Services support team. The department supports over 4500 desktop and portable computers, 120 servers, and over 10,000 network user and email accounts, as well as numerous peripherals such as printers, interactive white boards, & projectors.
The Data Center provides essential information services to the entire district. Mission critical data systems are backed-up daily, batch processing is managed, and output is printed and distributed in a traditional centralized data processing setting using high capacity multi-user computer systems and high speed printers.
The Help Desk comprises a team of highly skilled technicians. They have expertise in installation, maintenance and direct user support for critical information systems. Help Desk technicians support accounting, payroll, human resources and student information, data and database management, user account management, standard desktop office software applications, data, and database management. The Help Desk team manages students and staff e-mail systems, streaming media systems, and is responsible for the continuing protection of technology resources from activities which would impair or deny their effective use. Team members also prepare and deliver staff training on software systems currently in use throughout the district.
Network Services Team of skilled and trained technicians operate under the direct management and supervision of the Network Supervisor. Technicians carry out the daily installation, repair and maintenance of the district’s telecommunications and data infrastructure, servers, desktop and portable workstations, and peripheral devices. Technicians perform all levels of maintenance on equipment and coordinate with vendors as necessary for repair of other types of equipment. Network Services is also responsible for the installation and maintenance of all operating system and application software, including software used in support of classroom instruction and learning.
