Title I Program/Learning Assistance Program (LAP)

Department Owner:

Title I/Learning Assistance Programs:  Supplemental Reading and/or Math support for selected students is the focus for Title I and Learning Assistance Program (LAP) resources. These programs serve specific schools that meet the criteria set by the federal and state governments.

Title I:  In the Bellingham School District, we have five elementary schools that receive Federal Title I, Part A funds - Alderwood, Carl Cozier, Cordata, Roosevelt, and Sunnyland.  Title I services are also provided to students in non-Title I schools who are considered homeless and qualify for needing additional academic support.  As per federal regulations, Title I funds are used to support the academic needs of qualifying students enrolled at private schools who have opted to participate in the program.

LAP:  State LAP funds in the Bellingham School District are used to provide reading and math support classes at the middle and high schools.  The reading support classes at all middle and some high schools use the Read 180 curriculum.  LAP funded math support classes are in the schedule at each high school.  LAP funds can also be used for extended day learning opportunities designed for eligible students.
