Wade King Elementary Principal Announced

We are very pleased to announce that Analisa Ficklin will be the new principal of Wade King Elementary School. Ms. Ficklin is currently serving as Dean of Students and Library Media Specialist at Wade King.

Superintendent Greg Baker commented, “Over the years, Ms. Ficklin has earned the respect of her colleagues, students, and school families through her many, progressively responsible roles in several schools across our school district. This broad experience gives her a unique ability to reflect our One Schoolhouse values. I believe she is invested in the success of Wade King, as well as the larger Bellingham School District community.”

He added, “Ms. Ficklin was selected through a rigorous hiring process that attracted many excellent candidates. She has the high level of integrity and strong character we expect from Bellingham school leaders. It is a joy to be able to promote from within by hiring a principal who has grown through our system. I am confident that she is the right person to lead the Wade King school community and am happy to welcome her to the position.”

Throughout more than a decade of service to the Bellingham School District community, Ficklin has demonstrated strong instructional leadership, especially in the areas of educational technology and inquiry-based learning. Since January 2012, she has served as Dean of Students at Wade King Elementary while completing her administrative internship and continuing as Library Media Specialist in the building. Before joining the Wade King team, Ficklin was the library media specialist at both Larrabee (2007-11) and Carl Cozier (2001-06) elementary schools. She is also an experienced teacher, with service at Parkview Elementary (1999-2001) and at Kayenta Intermediate School in Arizona (1993-97).

Ficklin has her Bachelors of Arts in Education from Goshen College and her Masters of Education in School Administration and Instructional Design and Multimedia Development from Western Washington University. She has endorsements in K-12 Learning Resources, K-12 ESL, K-8 Elementary Education and 4-12 Instructional Technology.  Ficklin will receive her Washington state Residency Principal Certification in July 2012.

The comprehensive search and selection process involved many stakeholders and resulted in a suite of outstanding candidates. The process started by working with staff and families from Wade King to identify the qualities they most wanted in a new principal. The interview process included a selection team comprised of staff and parents, an interview with the superintendent, and other opportunities to get to know each candidate.

Ms. Ficklin will officially begin July 1. Current Wade King principal Rob McElroy will support this transition throughout the remainder of the school year.  Mr. McElroy will transition to a part-time position in the district’s Department of Teaching and Learning at the end of the 2011-12 school year.
