A Facilities Update from Bellingham Public Schools

Bellingham Public Schools (BPS) is excited to announce that Tiger Construction has been awarded the contract for the Lowell Elementary School Improvements Project beginning in late December.

Thanks to voters who approved a bond to fund several facilities projects in November 2013, Lowell is getting a new school gym, cafeteria, music classroom/stage, elevator, covered play area and classrooms.

Tiger Construction is based in Everson and has worked on school facility projects in the past, including Wade King and Cordata elementary schools.

“We’re really excited because Tiger Construction has done some outstanding work for us in the past,” said Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations Ron Cowan.

Construction and work on Lowell will begin late December and is expected to continue until August 2015.

BPSLowell Design Advisory Group (which includes Lowell and district staff and families) and the projects’ architects met throughout 2013-14 school year. They held two public forums on the project and received feedback from neighbors, staff and families; they made final recommendations on the new addition and renovations to the superintendent last spring.

Once construction begins, a web cam will be installed that will face the construction site and capture the construction progress so those interested can follow the progress from Lowell’s website
