Congratulations, Karen Tolliver

A Message from Superintendent Greg Baker

Happy Valley Elementary School Principal Karen Tolliver is sharing with her Happy Valley staff and families this afternoon that this will be her last year before retirement after 39 years of dedicated service.

Karen started working for Bellingham Public Schools 29 years ago as a teacher at Birchwood Elementary School. In 2002, she worked as a district learning facilitator at the district office and in 2005 became the principal at Happy Valley. Prior to Bellingham Public Schools, Karen had taught in Burlington and Oak Harbor. Karen earned her bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University and her master’s degree from City University.

We’re so appreciative of Karen for all that she has accomplished on behalf of kids and the Happy Valley community. We are excited for her and wish her all the best in her next adventures.

In the weeks ahead, we’ll begin a process to fill this position by July 1 for next school year. This process will include meeting with Happy Valley staff and families to gather input on desired leadership qualities.

Wishing you a great finish to your week and a happy weekend, and please join me in wishing congratulations to Karen!
