Early Dismissal for Elementary and Middle Schools

Bellingham Public Schools will be on an early dismissal schedule for elementary and middle schools on Thursday, Jan. 12. Middle schools dismiss at 12:15 p.m. and elementary schools dismiss at 1:15 p.m. Page 55 of the Family Handbook and Calendar incorrectly states the early dismissal day for middle schools. Please refer to the calendar on our website.

Friday, Jan. 13 is a regular school day for all students.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

All Bellingham Public Schools and the District Office are closed Monday, Jan. 16 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

In advance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, the Whatcom Human Rights Task Force (WHRTF) will present the 19th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Human Rights Conference. The conference begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 and at Whatcom Community College in the Syre Student Center. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.

This year’s conference theme is “Working Passionately and Unrelentingly for Justice.” Dr. Sabah Randhawa, president of Western Washington University, and Dr. Karen Dade, associate dean of the Woodring College of Education, will keynote the event.

Skill-building workshops will be facilitated by educators, community organizers and activists. The conference is free and open to all members of the community, including students. Click here for more information about the conference and the WHRTF.
