Shuksan Hosts 2018 Community Family Night

Community organizations from across Bellingham and Whatcom County have joined together to put on the Shuksan Community Family Night from 5 to 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 8 at Shuksan Middle School.  Families from Shuksan Middle School, Squalicum High School, and Alderwood, Birchwood, Cordata, Northern Heights and Sunnyland elementary schools are invited to attend. The night will be full of learning, fun and community building. Highlights of the event include:

  • Free family dinner in Shuksan’s cafeteria from 5 to 6 p.m.  This year we will serve a hearty chicken and vegetable soup featuring locally made broth from Cauldron Broths.  The soup will be accompanied with fresh greens, vegetables and fruit on our salad bar and fresh baked rolls. We will also have a vegan and allergen free option as well.
  • Community resource tables in the foyer and first floor hallways from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Stations for parents and students from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Childcare for children ages 5 and under
  • Activities for children in grades 1-5
  • Door prizes from local businesses

The Community Family Night is a collaborative effort between Shuksan Middle School, Bellingham Public Schools and the Family Resource Centers, Whatcom Family & Community Network, Communities in Schools, Whatcom County Health Department, Whatcom Prevention Coalition, Bellingham Police and Fire Departments, and Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. Other Community Partners include the Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center, BEaTS, Birchwood International Market, Bellingham Public Library, NAMI, DVSAS, Girls Rock Camp, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Empower Love Movement, NW Youth Services, Catholic Community Services, Love INC, Center for Independence, Community Health Plan of Washington, Molina Healthcare, Whatcom Alliance for Health Advancement, BTC Admissions, Whatcom Literacy Council, Opportunity Council, SEA Mar, Strengthening Families, WCC Admissions, Animals as Natural Therapy and GEAR UP.
