Cordata Third Graders Partner with WCC Students on Design Projects

Since January, third graders at Cordata Elementary School and engineering students from Whatcom Community College (WCC) have been working together on design projects. Following a balance and motion science unit, Cordata students paired up with WCC students to work through a design process. Pat Burnett, a WCC engineering faculty member helped make the visit to Whatcom possible by connecting with third grade teachers. Big Idea: Makerspace at Carl Cozier

Students at Carl Cozier Elementary School now have the opportunity to participate in a library makerspace lab thanks to a grant from the Bellingham Public Schools Foundation. Library media specialist Emily Jones applied for the grant to create a makerspace lab and to provide equitable resources to students interested in science, technology, engineering, arts and math, often referred to as STEAM. Community as a classroom for service learning at BHS
