Washington State Achievement Awards 2016

Six elementary and two middle schools in Bellingham Public Schools were distinguished as top performers in the state and received 2016 Washington Achievement Awards. The awards are determined by three years of academic progress as reported in the Washington Achievement Index. Schools were recognized for performance in seven categories.

Alderwood and Northern Heights elementary schools received special recognition for math growth.

Carl Cozier Elementary and Fairhaven Middle School are being recognized for closing the achievement gap with students with disabilities. Fairhaven also received an honor for high progress, as did Columbia Elementary.

Happy Valley Elementary and Whatcom Middle School received special recognition for growth in English language arts.

Lowell Elementary is being recognized for overall excellence and high progress.

An award ceremony will take place on May 3 in Auburn, Wash.
