Watch What’s Up Doc, Tour of Options High School

A Message from Superintendent Greg Baker

Dear Students, Families and Staff,

In August, we opened our new Options High School. This beautiful, state-of-the-art school replaced the collection of portables which were the home of Options for nearly 20 years. I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: I feel fortunate to live in a community that believes in equity and supports all students. The passage of the 2013 bond made this project possible, and it’s a clear example of our community’s collective commitment to our students.

Our new Options High School provides expanded opportunities for students including new career and technical education (CTE) course offerings such as aerospace manufacturing and engineering technology. AVID is new to the school and brand new GRADS classrooms for infants to toddlers is also housed within the walls at Options. This provides quality education to our littlest learners and supports teen parents in completing their high school education.

Principal Byron Gerard recently shared a photo with me, which I feel like captures some of the exciting new connections being made at Options. The photo below shows a young child from our GRADS program saying hello to our educational technology coach, Bruce Mansfield. As an educational technology coach, Bruce is supporting Options as they dive in to our 1:1 technology initiative, which is funded by our technology levy.

I could say more, but let me show you instead. Recently, two Options students led me on a tour of their school for a special edition of What’s Up Doc.

Please watch this video to get an inside look.
