5323 Policy – Early Retirement Sick Leave Cash-Out

The Bellingham School District has established an attendance incentive program, as provided for by RCW 28A.400.210.  Pursuant to this program, the School District remunerates employees

who have retired under the provisions of RCW 41.40.180 or 41.32.480, for accrued leave for illness or injury to the extent allowed by law.  In accordance with Chapter 234, Laws of 1992, those individuals choosing to take advantage of the early retirement provisions of this act will be eligible to receive payment for his/her accrued leave for illness or injury to the maximum amount allowed by law and payable as follows:

50% of the amount due at time of separation from the School District.

The remaining 50% to be paid to the employee in equal annual installments, on or before August 31 of the next three years, provided that the remainder of the payments due the employee shall be made no later than the date the employee would have been eligible to retire under the provisions of RCW 41.40.180 or 41.32.480, had the employee continued to work for the District until eligible to retire.
