5440 Policy – Certificated Staff Interns

The Board encourages cooperation with colleges and universities in the training of certificated staff, including teachers, administrators, and specialists. The District shall accept interns from accredited institutions of higher learning with which the District has a cooperative agreement approved by the Board.

The Board authorizes the superintendent to honor those reasonable rules, regulations, and training guidelines of the various institutions. The institutions shall be expected to provide liaison personnel who shall work cooperatively with the principal and the coordinating teacher or administrator throughout the pre-service process.

The superintendent or designee shall coordinate the request for placement with building principals in order to meet the mutual needs of both the District and the interns. Interns shall comply with the policies of the District as they apply to certificated staff. The supervising teacher or administrator and the principal shall be responsible for the conduct of the intern.
