A Message from the Department of Teaching and Learning

Kindergarten registration

You may register your child for kindergarten at your neighborhood school before June 27 or after Aug. 14. During the summer, families can register at the District Office 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday from July 8 to Aug. 13.

We offer a full-time kindergarten program at all elementary schools at no cost to families. Students attend kindergarten on the regular elementary school schedule from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Children must be 5 years old before Sept. 1 to attend kindergarten.

To find out more about attendance areas, registration and required immunizations, please visit bellinghamschools.org/kindergarten or contact our elementary schools directly.

Head Start applications

The Opportunity Council is still accepting applications for its Head Start preschool program and Washington state’s Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) preschool for this fall.

Head Start is a quality early learning educational program available for children age 3 or 4. This program is available at no cost to eligible families and is located inside Alderwood, Birchwood, Roosevelt, Silver Beach and Sunnyland elementary schools. District families can also enroll at other Bellingham sites, on Whatcom Community College’s campus and select public housing developments. Head Start classes begin early September.

You can apply online or call 360-734-8396, ext. 352. You can also apply in person at one of the school offices until June 27 or after Aug. 14.

Please also feel free to pass on this information to any friends or neighbors with preschool or kindergarten-age children.
