A Message from Superintendent Greg Baker
Dear students, staff and families,
Thanks again for all of your patience during our weather challenges and closures the week of Jan. 13.
Depending on whether you believe what the groundhog says, we still have about six more weeks of winter to get through, so we haven’t officially released a new last day of school. That said, it’s likely that we will add days to the end of the year. We have had four snow days thus far, so we expect the last day to be June 17, or possibly later if we get more snow days.
For our senior families, graduation ceremonies will be moved one week later. As you may remember, each fall we give tentative graduation dates and remind families these dates are not firm until after Feb. 28, in case we have closures due to weather. This season’s early snow days are allowing us to give families as much advance notice as possible for planning. We have tried to avoid conflicting with graduation ceremonies at Western Washington University and University of Washington with these new dates and times.
Here are the new times, dates and locations for graduation for the class of 2020:
- Bellingham High School: 5 p.m. Friday, June 12 at Bellingham High School
- Sehome High School: 7 p.m. Friday, June 12 at Sehome High School
- Squalicum High School: 10 a.m. Saturday, June 13 at Squalicum High School
- Options High School: 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 15 at Options High School
- Community Transitions: 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 16 at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal
The last day for seniors is still to be determined; it’s dependent on the last day of school for all K-11 students, which again has not determined.
We appreciate your understanding; there is no perfect answer when it comes to school schedules, including graduation dates and snow make-up days. We do our best to meet the variety of scheduling needs of our students, staff and families.
