A Message from Superintendent Greg Baker
Dear staff, families and community members,
I hope you enjoyed the three-day weekend. We finally made it to the other side of the weather and welcome the rain and temperatures in the 40s and 50s!
This weekend, you can expect to see the latest edition of our community newsletter InsideSchools in your mailbox. Among other stories, the winter edition highlights a celebration of Kulshan Middle School at 25 years, Squalicum’s Protest Art and Literature class, and an innovative program with Bellingham Public Library. This edition also introduces our newest school board member and talks about our upcoming replacement levies.
Our operations and technology capital levies are not new; they replace levies set to expire this year. These levies make up nearly 25% of our budget, and if approved, these levies will continue to support many important initiatives, programs and efforts across our district. These include music, athletics, Special Education, technology and lowering class size. Bellingham continues to show its strong support for education, and we, on behalf of our students, staff and district, are so appreciative.
It’s been a pleasure talking with our school parent groups and joining your staff meetings over the last few months to share information about our replacement levies. Please let me know if you have questions about our levies and how they help fund our staff, schools, district and programs.
Elementary families can expect to see our Levy Fact Sheet coming home in backpacks soon. Middle and high school offices will have Levy Fact Sheets available in their school offices in the coming days.
