Please plan ahead for next year’s student health and medication needs

A Message from Health Services

Dear families,

Bellingham Public Schools’ health services thanks you for allowing us the opportunity to work with and help support your children during this school year.

It’s never too early to look ahead—please take a moment to read this to help plan for your child’s health and medication needs next year.

Immunizations:  Please check with your medical provider to ensure your child is up to date on their immunizations prior to the first day of school: August 28, 2019.

Health Plans and Other Health Conditions:  If your child has a change in their health, will require changes to their health plan or has a health condition that will require accommodations during the school day, please contact your school to discuss your child’s needs.

Medications and EpiPens: If your child had medication or an EpiPen at school this year, please make sure you pick it up after school is dismissed on June 20 and before June 27, or it will be discarded.

To renew medication or EpiPen permission for next school year, please plan to do the following and bring these items to your school when classes resume August 28.

  1. Get new or renewed physicians’ orders from your care provider for prescription medications, over-the-counter medications that will be administered by school staff, and/or EpiPens.
  2. Fill out this form for medications or obtain a form from your school for an EpiPen.
  3. Bring the form(s), physician’s orders, and medication or EpiPen to your school in a pharmacy container with the student’s name and prescription information on the label.

Bellingham Public Schools follows our policy and procedure 3413 on student immunization and life-threatening health conditions. Please see your medical provider for any questions about your child’s immunization status. For more information about immunization requirements, please see the state Department of Health’s website and/or your health care provider.

We look forward to a new year in 2019-20 of supporting the health of all children in Bellingham Public Schools. Please contact your school office with any questions.
