High schools unite for post-high school planning

Washington state requires all graduates to complete a “High School and Beyond Plan” (HSBP). The HSBP is one tool for to help students achieve their “fulfilling and productive life” our community envisions in The Bellingham Promise for all our students. This year our high schools have kicked it up a level, teaching a set of common lessons weekly during advisory classes, and increasing focus on to an online portfolio and portal students can work through and add to as they progress through high school. Future playgrounds in BPS to be guided by universal design

In spring 2021, Bellingham Public Schools convened the Playgrounds Standards Ad-Hoc Advisory Committee as a way to set in place a new set of guidelines for choosing playground equipment and surfacing. At that time, three new elementary schools were under construction, and the district wanted to be intentional and informed as decisions were made for play spaces for elementary students. Knowing how vital play and physical activity are for healthy child development, getting the right playgrounds meant some focused attention on it. Read more online.

Humans of BPS from fall 2021
